I am the author of two books on making things from broken hockey sticks and discarded hockey equipment. I need to add full disclosure. I did not play a lot of hockey as a kid. At the time I could have been learning backwards cross overs, there was no ice to be had. I was living in the Congo, son of missionaries. What brought on this relationship with discarded hockey equipment relates to me marrying a Canadian lass and relocating from Albuquerque with our three sons to the small town of Sackville NB. 50 Things to Make with a Broken Hockey Stick was venture with myself and the wonderful folks at Goose Lane Editions, in Fredricton NB. I was a Canadian best seller for a while. With unbounded enthusiasm we launched Fabulous Fabrications from Busted Hockey Gear and then the NHL went out on strike. Visualize me pouring a tall glass of sour grapes as enthusiasm waned for all things hockey that year including what I consider a very good second volume on hockey recycling. Both books are available in bookstores in Canada and from Amazon. I do not play league hockey, although now I am somewhat more proficient on skates. We do have a nice pond nearby to skate on where neighborhood hockey takes place. Of all my kids, only one did time in Pee Wee. I am finishing up an illustrated novel, (some illustrations appear on the Illustrations page) and am shopping around for a publisher. I plan to post the first chapter online as a PDF in the near future. |
